Join us to get to know Finnish artist, Daniela Toivonen (@bydansku). In this catch-up, we got to know how she found her creativity and built the courage to share her work. Feel the floral fantasy and get inspired!

How would you describe yourself?

I get easily excited about lovely and beautiful things. I have been described as an accessible and helpful person. I love being with my favourite people but also enjoy being alone.

How did you discover your inner artist? Was it a gradual process or a surprise discovery?

I have always been interested in the arts and different ways to express my creativity. I feel happy inspiring others to do the same!

How did you build the courage to share your artwork with people and online? (We’re so glad you did!)

I started sharing different crafts in the Spring of 2021. At first, it was only a diary for family and friends… then something magical happened and nowadays there are almost 25k people following my journey. It's still like a diary of everything creative I do and I’m not afraid of sharing my work.

How do you set up your creative space? (Environment, music, etc.)

My creative space is actually on the kitchen island. That's so that when I create my things there, I’m still near my children as they also like to do creative things.

Do you have a favourite colour palette you lean to? If so, what draws you to it?

I love pastel colours. The funny thing is that when I started sharing my art on Instagram, I liked black and white the most. The colours came slowly but now I can’t imagine not choosing colours!

Do you have a fave Mont Marte product? We love seeing what you make with them!

I love the watercolours! But acrylics are also nice.

What’s a Friday night look like for you? Takeout, night out, games, early night… what’s the best end to the week?

Good food, chips and dip, sauna and early sleep!

Where does your mind drift to when you paint?

I would say that my mind processes things differently while I paint. It's the best way to let the thoughts just flow around. While painting I feel calm.
