Meet Anne Marie Jenner (@artbyannejenner), a vibrant and talented German artist based out of Melbourne. Her inspiring and open-minded take on creating is refreshing, so dive in and find your inner artist now!

How did you discover your inner artist? Was it a gradual process or a surprise discovery?

I always knew I wanted to be an artist—I even wrote it in my Grade 3 diary, which I still have as a keepsake. But funnily enough, I didn’t actually dive back into painting until my 20s! I thought I wanted to be an Architect but after a while, I realised that wasn’t where my heart was.

I’d always been creative, but it wasn’t until I started experimenting with acrylics and added water to my paints one day that I stumbled upon acrylic pouring. That was my ‘aha’ moment! It instantly clicked, and now it’s what I’m known for. So, while my passion for art was always there, the journey to discovering acrylic pour was a fun surprise—and one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

What would you say to a beginner artist who might be a little scared to try creating?

Don’t be afraid to start. Creativity is about allowing your mind, body, and soul the freedom to explore, and that comes from experimenting and making mistakes. The process isn’t about perfection; it’s about discovery. Even after 6+ years as an artist, I still embrace the challenge of trying different techniques and mediums. Go into it without any expectations—just play, explore, and let yourself be open to what unfolds. The beauty often lies in the unexpected.

We see you’re into making holistic art – can you tell us a bit about that?

Holistic Art, much like talk therapy, is a powerful tool for relieving stress, anxiety, and even helping us discover and heal parts of ourselves. It combines the therapeutic process with creative expression, making it a gentle and effective way to support mental wellness. Plus, it’s a colourful and fun experience that allows people to connect deeply with their emotions in a non-verbal way. It’s about healing through creativity and I’m totally here for it!

What art mediums are your go-tos?

My go-to is definitely the Mont Marte Pouring Acrylic Medium—I can’t live without it, as it forms the foundation of all my artworks. I also love using the Mont Marte Acrylic Pouring Paints. The vibrant colours and the way they flow so smoothly across the surface are incredibly satisfying to work with. These products are not only perfect for beginners but also for established artists, making them versatile and enjoyable for anyone creating with them.

What’s something that you’re proud of, that you don’t often get to talk about?

I’m incredibly proud of the journey I’ve taken to get where I am today. It wasn’t easy, and it definitely didn’t happen overnight. I started out working from a storage unit with no electricity or water, pushing through every challenge with determination and consistency. There were times when it would have been easy to doubt myself, but I stayed true to my vision and kept pushing forward. Now, as a “The Block Artist 2024”, I can look back and appreciate how every small step, every late night, and every hurdle brought me closer to this moment. I’m grateful I never gave up on my dream.

If you designed your dream creative space, what would it look like?

It would be filled with natural light! I’m a morning person and I feel most motivated when sunlight floods the room. I’d also love to have a large enough space to fit a vintage velvet couch—just for fun!

How do you tackle art block?

I believe in listening to your body and not forcing creativity. Art blocks are normal, and I think they happen when we need them. I find a change of scenery helps—nature is a big inspiration for me, so I take walks, go to the ocean, or spend time doing something different like hitting the gym, reading a book or even baking! These activities help spark inspiration and eventually help me overcome the block.

Do you have a fave Mont Marte product? We love seeing what you make with them!

I love the Pouring Acrylic Paint Premium in Light Aquamarine. I’m naturally drawn to the ocean, and there are very few artworks where I don’t use that colour. It’s definitely a must-have for creatives!

What or who are your biggest creative inspirations?

Nature has always been my greatest creative inspiration. There’s something deeply grounding about watching a sunset, walking along the beach, or listening to the waves crash against the shore—it fills me with peace and creative energy. Nature’s beauty is a constant reminder that inspiration is all around us if we take the time to pause and observe.

Music, especially piano music, also plays a big role in my creative process, helping me relax and tap into my emotions.

For me, art is like journaling—each piece is a reflection of what I’m feeling in that moment. I encourage others to seek out those simple, quiet moments in nature; they can spark creativity in the most unexpected ways.

What’s a Friday night look like for you? Takeout, night out, games, early night… what’s the best end to the week?

Friday nights used to be all about dinners out with friends or a cozy movie night with my partner. But now, with our 6-month-old baby girl Wylda-Rae in the mix, things have changed— and I love it! These days, it’s all about evening strolls, a delicious home-cooked meal (or takeout, let’s be real!), and cuddles with Wylda-Rae before we all crash early. It might sound mellow but honestly, it’s my favourite way to wrap up the week.

Anne has taught us to just have a go at creating and explore different, mediums, styles, and techniques. We love this attitude and can’t wait to find peace in creating!
