Take a leaf out of famous pop art artist Andy Warhol’s book and make a technicolour stylised artwork! We’ve packed this blog with stacks of inspo to kick off your project, just find a colour palette or theme that tickles your fancy and away you go.

Animal portrait art

Paint your fave fur babies with bold acrylics and striking brush strokes! Not only is this a fun project because you’re connected to the subject matter, but it makes amazing wall art for your home. Capture the highlights, shadows, and fur texture with colours that bend realism and pop off the canvas.

Pop art accessories

Take your pop art portraiture to the next level by adding accessories! The glasses in the acrylic painting above are windows to the sci-fi-moonscape background, while the planet-inspired earrings bring a bold pop of contrast. Even the tattoo adds to the story, bringing modern flair to a pin-up style portrait.

Paper pop art

Think outside the box and try different mediums! This artist carefully cut and stuck paper to create a pop art silhouette, using negative space for contrast and clarity. The colours, expression, and patterns are bold and bright, with the clean paper lines telling a clear story. Grab some Craft Paper and get going!

Pop art repetition

Pop art painting of hairless cat repeated in four rectangles

Repetition is a pop art technique commonly found in famous works such as Warhol’s Cambell’s Soup Can series. Find out how to recreate this striking kitty portrait by following along with our project video – customise it by painting your own pet instead!

Monochromatic pop art

Challenge yourself to explore a limited colour palette and create contrast without using contrasting colours. This portrait uses two shades of blue (plus a little white), contrasting the lighter tone with the darker to capture the subject. Where the background is light, the portrait features are dark and vice versa. This matte finish of the Acrylic Paints really cements the stylised pop art aesthetic!

Painting on a wood panel

Get creative on unique canvases to get used to the style. This round piece of wood served as a great backdrop for a pop art wheel, where the artist explored loads of different motifs, themes, and colours. Why not try using Acrylic Paint Pens when tackling bold outlines and tight patterns?

Sci-Fi pop art

Try your own hand at iconic pop art themes such as sci-fi and pop culture references. This T-rex skull reminds us of popular dino movies, while the space backdrop adds a science-fiction flair. Combining two opposing themes is also a fun way to boost the stylised vibes – ancient history meets modern space travel!

Animal pop art

We couldn’t resist adding in our own animal-in-space painting – the Space Cow! Grab out your bold primary colours and join us to make this cute sci-fi-inspired bovine painting. Check out the video to see more!
