Decoupage heart

This Plaster of Paris heart has been casted and decoupaged to create a unique decoration. Find a mould or make one from silicone to cast your heart base with plaster, then wait until it dries. Grab a craft glue and sealer like Deco Pudge and decoupage a design you love onto the plaster for a personalised effect! The possibilities are endless with this technique.

Have you heard of relief sculpting? It’s basically where you create a mould by pushing something (like the oat above) into a non-porous, malleable base (like modelling clay). Then, you pour Plaster of Paris into the mould and let it dry to reveal the indentation as a relief sculpture. Have a go at this technique at home by starting small and working your way up to more complex reliefs.

Sculpt something from everyday life with Plaster of Paris! Whether you have a mould laying around or you make one from scratch, it’s fun to create a realistic version of your inspo. Finesse the design with paints and add a varnish to give it a shiny finish. What fruit or veg would you sculpt?

Let the neutral tones found within Plaster of Paris shine through by experimenting with lacey decoupage. The combo of the intricate white designs over the smooth plaster heart makes this a simple but striking design. You can pick whatever shapes you like as your base and gift them or display them around the house!
Relief sculpture tutorial
Throwback to one of our early tutorials where we show you how to make a simple relief sculpture. Use items around the house to create geometric-style indentations into modelling clay, then cast using Plaster of Paris!
